About the Composer

WALTER C. SANCHEZ was exposed to all kinds of music at an early age.  His first piano lessons began when he was 13 years old and ended abruptly when he moved to Southern California to help his older sister raise her family. 

 

After returning to San Francisco, he decided to continue with his piano study and to expand his musical knowledge. After graduating from high school, he majored in Music at San Francisco State University.

Mr. Sanchez has written compositions for many different instruments including  piano, cello, tuba, Native American flute.  He has over 40 compositions in different styles ranging from classical, to jazz, to new age, to easy listening.  

His piano composition Thinking had its West Coast premier in February 2002 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It has been performed around the world by Guy Livingston and recorded by Mr. Livingston on the WERGO Record Label.  It was also featured in the New Music Box website.  For a CD performed by Mr. Livingston of Don't Panic! 60 seconds for piano visit New Music Box web site.

His compositions Thinking, Dog and Cats and The Clown  for piano, A Sip of Coffee, A Walk in the Woods, and Coming Out for Contrabass and Piano, Mabilis Ang Takbo (Run Faster), Naiwanan (Left Behind), Takbong Mabilis (Faster, Run) and Kaming Lahat (All of Us) for flute and bass clarinet are available as music scores through Musik Fabrik Publication

His compositions Mabilis Ang Takbo and Takbong Mabilis for flute and bass clarinet have been performed in San Francisco for the Excelsior Benefit Concerts in March 2004 by Johanna Borenstein and Jonathan Russell.

On April 2005, his Duet for Flute and Cello Mojave Sunrise was performed at the Englanders House in San Francisco, by Harry Bernstein and Nick Carlin. Dog and Cats for piano was performed by Davide Verotta.

On October 2006 his composition for Flute and String quartet Mindless Thoughts was performed by the Presidio Ensemble at the San Francisco Community Music Center.

On September 2007 his compositions In the Meadow, Beginning of Dawn and Life in the City for Flute, Clarinet, Piano and Cello were performed by Chamber Mix at the San Francisco Community Music Center.

When he is not writing music in his spare time, he volunteers for the Contra Costa Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR), and is a volunteer for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
